Six Lebanese Army Soldiers Killed in Southern Lebanon
The Lebanese Army confirmed on Saturday, August 8, that six soldiers were killed and two wounded during an explosion while inspecting a weapons depot and transferring ammunition in tyre, southern Lebanon.
The explosion occurred between the villages of Majdalzoun and Wadi Zabqin.
According to reports, a unit from the Lebanese Army and UNIFIL forces arrived at the scene.
The Presidential Office stated that President Joseph Aoun spoke by phone with General Rudolf Heikal, commander of the Lebanese Army.He was informed about what he described as a “painful incident,” which resulted from an ammunition explosion at one of the army’s engineering battalion units during their efforts to extract and neutralize it.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam extended his condolences for the deaths of army personnel who lost their lives while ”carrying out their national duty.”
