Lebanon’s Deputy Prime Minister: We Have Few Disagreements with Hezbollah

lebanons Deputy Prime Minister says dialog is the solution to the issue ‍of resistance disarmament amid ongoing‍ national developments.

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Tarek matteri, Lebanon’s ⁣deputy Prime Minister, told Al Jazeera Mubasher ‍that discussions with Hezbollah leaders are underway and differences are not meaningful. ‍He highlighted a shared agreement in supporting ⁤the Lebanese army.

Matteri criticized Israeli behavior, stating, “We do not trust Israel,” referencing its actions in Gaza as ‍evidence. He also noted that the United States guarantees any agreement made.

He emphasized that Israeli attacks must cease, Israel should withdraw from occupied territories, and prisoners must be returned.

The Deputy Prime Minister made anti-Iranian remarks, asserting that Tehran should refrain from interfering in ⁤Lebanon’s internal affairs.

Matteri stated there is‍ consensus that political disagreements ‌should⁤ not escalate into armed conflict. He said accusing the Lebanese army of being mercenaries is outdated language and affirmed continued political dialogue aimed at reaching an agreement.

He⁢ added that a ministerial statement-also approved⁣ by Hezbollah-affirms the state’s exclusive control over weapons. Though, their disagreement lies over how and when to implement this. Any handling of Hezbollah’s arms will not involve force or confrontation.

matteri acknowledged concerns about potential Israeli aggression if disarmament proceeds.
