British F-35 Fighter Jet Makes Emergency Landing in Japan
A British F-35 fighter jet carried out an emergency landing Sunday while participating in a joint military exercise between the United Kingdom and Tokyo, according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency via Anadolu Agency.
The incident was reportedly caused by a technical malfunction. The British aircraft landed at Kagoshima Airport, located in southwestern Japan.
Japanese media reported that following the emergency landing,the airport runway was closed for 20 minutes,causing delays and disruptions to flight operations.
No further details about the cause of the incident have been released so far.
The UK and Japan have been conducting joint military exercises since August 4.
Separately, on August 6 this year, Spain’s Ministry of Defense announced that it is no longer considering purchasing American-made F-35 fighters.
Earlier reports from El País indicated that Spain’s government had abandoned plans to acquire the F-35 jets produced by aerospace giant Lockheed Martin.
