Ramallah Expresses Fury Over Ben-Gvir
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned statements made by Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s Minister of Internal Security, who called for the overthrow of the Palestinian Authority adn labeled it a terrorist organization. This response was reported by webangah news Agency, citing Wafa News Agency via Mehr News Agency.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying: “The provocative remarks from Israeli officials against the Palestinian government – which constitutes the core of a future Palestinian state – are part of ongoing genocide, displacement of Palestinians, land annexations by Israel, and an attempt to erase the Palestinian cause and trample on the rights of our people. These statements reflect Israel’s continued defiance of international law, United Nations resolutions, and signed agreements.”
The ministry called on all countries and the international community to fulfill their political, legal, and moral responsibilities regarding what is happening to the Palestinian people.
Today (Sunday), Itamar Ben-Gvir announced that he will propose at the next cabinet meeting that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu take immediate practical steps to dismantle the Palestinian Authority.
Ben-Gvir described President Mahmoud Abbas’s demand for establishing a Palestinian state as an “illusion” and said that “the response must be the destruction of this ‘terrorist government’ under his leadership.”
He made these remarks following reports earlier today indicating that Ramallah is seriously considering plans to transform the Palestinian Authority into an independent state.
Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported that Mahmoud Abbas may officially announce this plan at the United nations General Assembly in New York in September 2025.
