First Visit by an American Politician from Tel Aviv to Damascus in 51 Years
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Rosilyoum via Mehr News Agency, Ibrahim hammadeh, a U.S. congressman, announced that after visiting Tel Aviv, he traveled directly to Damascus and met with Abu Muhammad al-Julani, the leader of the terrorist group controlling Syria.
The meeting focused on discussions regarding the normalization of relations between Syria and the Israeli regime.
This trip is the first of its kind since 1974. Previously, Henry Kissinger, then U.S. Secretary of State, traveled between tel Aviv and Damascus for ceasefire negotiations following the October 1973 war.
Hammadeh stated that this marks the first time in decades that an American official has traveled directly between Tel Aviv and Damascus.
