Iraqi Intelligence Captures Three “Lone Wolves” Terrorists + Video
A security source told Al-Ahd that intelligence forces captured three terrorists linked to the Lone Wolves gangs. The detainees admitted to setting fire to several Hussaini service tents, according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency.
The source added that these arrested terrorists were planning a major attack during the Arbaeen pilgrimage.
Other Iraqi sources revealed that a member of a Baathist gang was arrested in Karbala while communicating with Raghad, Saddam Hussein’s daughter.
On another front, security expert Fadel Abu Ragheef detailed the dismantling of the Lone Wolves cell aiming to target Arbaeen pilgrims.
He noted terrorist activities by such groups in central and southern Iraqi cities and described intelligence and security operations against the Lone Wolves. He confirmed foiling an attempted attack they planned in Sadr City, Baghdad.
Abu Ragheef explained that these militants seek to influence young Iraqis by spreading extremist takfiri ideology. Efforts to disrupt terrorist cells have been ongoing for over a year. They also aimed to distribute poisoned food among pilgrims.
He urged authorities to issue necessary security permits before setting up Hussaini service tents during religious gatherings.
the so-called “Lone Wolves” attacks are carried out by individuals acting alone without clear links to any organized group; though, such attacks can involve small cells of two or three members at most.
This tactic represents a new strategy adopted especially by groups like ISIS. In this approach, attackers carry out violent acts independently without organizational ties or external support but with ideological alignment supporting those groups. Because Lone Wolves operate separately from known terror organizations and act alone, they pose meaningful challenges for security forces seeking identification and prevention.
