Washington Post: Netanyahu Forced to Retreat from Full Gaza Strip Occupation Plan
The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al-siyasah, reported that the Washington Post stated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has retreated from his earlier plan to fully occupy the Gaza Strip. rather, he has settled for expanding Israeli control over about 10 percent of Gaza in the current phase.
Informed sources revealed that this gradual approach requires only half of the troops originally needed for a full occupation. The deployment of Israeli forces will begin incrementally after nearly one million displaced Palestinians are forced out by next September.
The Washington Post added that this development signals Netanyahu’s withdrawal from his previous decision, which has angered his right-wing allies. It also indicates that Israeli military commanders still hold more power over Netanyahu.
Israeli security agencies have pressured Netanyahu to scale back the scope of the Gaza occupation plan.
Al Jazeera Network’s website noted that due to opposition from Eyal Zamir, Chief of Staff of Tel Aviv’s army, Netanyahu had to retract his full occupation strategy. It appears Israel’s military is much weaker than widely assumed.
