Malnutrition Affects 320,000 Children and 55,000 Pregnant Women in Gaza
Mohammad Abuselmia, Director of Shifa Medical Complex, stated that 320,000 children in the gaza Strip are affected by malnutrition, among whom 17,000 suffer from severe acute malnutrition.
He emphasized that hospitals can only temporarily sustain these children’s lives through medical solution injections but stressed that this does not constitute a complete treatment.
Highlighting global standards,he asserted that Gaza is facing a genuine famine and called on the United Nations to declare the area a famine-stricken disaster zone.
He added: “We lack the capacity to provide services due to the complete collapse of healthcare infrastructure. There is no drinking water in Gaza City and cases of gastrointestinal diseases have increased. Additionally, 55,000 pregnant women suffer from malnutrition. We cannot provide care for cardiac patients here.”
The director also noted: “International organizations have medical shipments ready but cannot deliver them into Gaza as the occupiers do not permit entry.”
