Juba Responds to Talks with Tel Aviv on Gaza Residents’ Resettlement
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al-Bawaba, South Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday denied reports about talks between Juba and Tel Aviv on relocating Palestinians to this African nation.
The ministry stated: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of South Sudan firmly rejects recent media reports alleging negotiations between Juba and Tel Aviv concerning the settlement of Palestinians from Gaza in South Sudan. These claims are baseless and inaccurate, and they do not represent the official position or policy of the government.”
South Sudan’s foreign ministry further urged all media outlets to conduct proper investigations before publishing any information and to obtain news from official channels.
It is indeed worth noting that on Tuesday, The Associated Press reported that Israel is negotiating with South Sudan over resettling Gaza residents in this troubled East African country-a move described by experts and human rights organizations as a plan for “forced expulsion” and a clear violation of international law.
According to AP, six informed sources have confirmed these talks; though, it remains unclear how far these negotiations have progressed.
