Iraq: Recent Memorandum with Iran Concerns Security Cooperation
The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, reported that Iraq’s National Security Advisor’s Office claimed there is no security agreement between Iraq and Iran; only a memorandum of understanding has been signed between the two countries.
The office stated that the memorandum concerns border security and security cooperation.
It added that the memorandum also addresses issues related to separatist terrorist groups and was prepared prior to the Zionist regime’s aggression against Iran.
The joint security memorandum between Iran and Iraq was signed on august 11 during Ali Larijani’s recent visit to Baghdad. Larijani is Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, and he met with Qasim Al-Araji, Iraq’s National Security Advisor.
