Baku Violates Key Clause of 2020 Tripartite Agreement
Mehr News Agency, International Desk: Mohammad Reza Moradi, expert and Director General of International Affairs and Foreign News at Mehr News Agency, addressed the international conference titled “The Zangazur Corridor: Geopolitical Threats against Iran and Perspectives of Various Actors.” He said that since conflicts between Azerbaijan and Armenia began, connecting Baku to Nakhchivan has emerged as one of the main challenges between the two countries.
He added: “During several wars, Azerbaijan gained control over Nagorno-Karabakh and committed through a tripartite agreement to ensure safe contact for residents in this area with Armenia. However, due to the blockade on Nagorno-Karabakh and pressure applied on Armenians there, they were forced to emigrate, leaving the region depopulated.”
According to Moradi, Azerbaijan claims under Article 9 of this tripartite agreement that Armenia agreed to establish a corridor linking Azerbaijani territory with Nakhchivan. He further stated that the Zangazur Corridor poses a meaningful security threat for the Islamic Republic of Iran, Armenia, and other regional actors connected with South Caucasus affairs.
