Lavrov: Our Position in the Negotiations Is Clear
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Russia Al-Youm, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated, “Our position is clear and we will announce it. We hope for a constructive dialog.”
Lavrov emphasized that the Russian side will present its stance during today’s summit between Presidents Putin and Trump in alaska.
“Our position is explicit and evident, and we will articulate it,” he added. “we have made extensive efforts to clarify Russia’s viewpoint during Steve witkoff’s visit to Russia, and we look forward to continuing this constructive dialogue.”
This comes as Lavrov and Alexander Darchiev, Russia’s ambassador to Washington, arrived in Alaska today.
The White House announced that a bilateral meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will take place on Friday, August 15, 2025, in Alaska. According to the statement, the leaders’ meeting is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. local time (22:30 Tehran time / 22:00 Moscow time).
The venue for the summit is the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Anchorage. American officials say discussions will focus on critical topics including the war in Ukraine, bilateral economic relations, and global security issues.
Meanwhile, Kremlin sources have set the session start time at 11:30 a.m. Alaska time-approximately 22:00 Tehran time.Observers suggest this half-hour discrepancy may stem from differences in internal scheduling or coordination between the two sides.
Prior to the meeting, President Trump departed Washington at 6:45 a.m., returning to his residence later that same day after concluding talks.
This marks Trump’s first official encounter with putin since beginning his second presidential term. Analysts view it as a pivotal event shaping diplomatic developments between Washington and Moscow.
Russia Al-Youm also reported that both Kremlin and White House confirmed meetings between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump on August 15 include preliminary sessions before extended talks involving delegations from both countries. From Moscow’s side attending are Deputy Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov; Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov; Defense minister Andrei Belousov; Finance Minister Anton Siluanov; and also Kirill Dmitriev representing presidential special affairs regarding investment cooperation.
Notably, prior to his arrival for talks with Trump in Alaska, Putin traveled to Magadan city within Russia.
