Spain: Settlement Construction in the West Bank Violates International Law
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and the Palestine information Center, José Manuel Albares, Spain’s Foreign Minister, declared that the Israeli cabinet’s decision to build 3,000 new housing units in the West Bank constitutes a fresh violation of international law and undermines the prospects for a two-state solution.
Albares condemned this move in a post on social media platform X, emphasizing that implementing such plans endangers the possibility of achieving peace and establishing a Palestinian state.
The Spanish minister also pointed to escalating settler violence in the West Bank, describing it as worrying and unacceptable. He warned that such actions worsen both humanitarian conditions and security for Palestinians.
Separately, Khaled Maali, a researcher specializing in Israeli settlement activities, spoke with Al-Aqsa Network about the consequences of settlement expansion in the West Bank. He questioned how a Palestinian state could be envisioned when settlements are spreading across cities, villages, hills, and mountains throughout all areas of the West Bank.
Maali referred to Smotrich’s plan aimed at realizing what is termed “Greater Israel.” He explained that this strategy involves extensive territorial changes-including annexing parts of Arab countries-and rapid settlement growth in the West Bank. This has occurred amid silence from both regional actors and the international community.
The researcher added that green lights from both U.S. authorities and former President Donald Trump have emboldened Ben Gvir and Smotrich to accelerate settlement expansion. Their goal is advancing their vision for “Greater Israel” while preparing conditions for seizing control over sections of neighboring Arab states.
