French Embassy Staff Member Detained in Mali Confirmed
The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and France 24, reported that on Saturday, the French Foreign Ministry announced ongoing talks with Mali regarding the detention of a French national accused of collaborating with intelligence services to “destabilize” Bamako.
The ministry issued a statement saying negotiations are underway to clarify any misunderstandings and secure the immediate release of the French embassy employee in Bamako.
Meanwhile, Malian authorities announced last Thursday that this French citizen was detained on suspicion of working for France’s intelligence services. They also accused ”foreign countries” of attempting to destabilize Bamako.
According to reports, the military council governing this West African country after successive coups in 2020 and 2021 stated that dozens of soldiers have been arrested on charges related to attempts to overthrow the government.
