Vitkaf: Territorial Exchange Between Russia and Ukraine Essential for Moscow-Kyiv Agreement
according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Steve Witkoff, the U.S. president’s special envoy to the region, said in an interview wiht CNN on Sunday that during the Trump-Putin meeting in Alaska, they agreed on strong security guarantees that would change the rules of the game.
Witkoff added that as intermediaries in Alaska, they clearly supported Ukraine’s position. Russia made concessions regarding Ukrainian territories it had occupied. The U.S. consulted well with President Zelensky and tried to quickly reach a lasting peace agreement.
He continued that territorial exchanges between Russia and Ukraine are necessary for such an agreement but stressed this issue could not be discussed with Putin present in Alaska. They will discuss territorial exchanges directly with Zelensky and hope it leads soon to a peace deal.
Witkoff further explained that from their outlook,the five regions Russia claims have always been central to any deal. Russia has made concessions regarding these five areas. putin also agreed not to advance into any other Ukrainian or European territories under domestic legislation commitments. The disputed regions will be discussed with Zelensky tomorrow. The United States does not decide on Kyiv’s potential territorial concessions but acts solely as a mediator in negotiations.
