Rubio: Difficult Issues Between Russia and Ukraine Remain Unresolved
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated in an interview with Fox News on Saturday that significant challenges persist between Russia and Ukraine. Discussions about borders and long-term security guarantees remain complex. Following the Alaska meeting, achieving a ceasefire in Ukraine is still a priority on the agenda.
Rubio claimed that reaching an agreement to end the war in Ukraine is the most difficult deal they have faced. Many talks with the Ukrainian president on Monday will focus on security guarantees and Kyiv’s demands. The United States views a comprehensive peace treaty, rather than a temporary ceasefire, as the best outcome for resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
He added that he does not know who claimed former President Trump supports Putin’s proposal for full Russian control over Luhansk and Donetsk. The US stands ready to maintain all sanctions against Russia-and impose new ones-if progress stalls on resolving the situation in Ukraine.
Rubio further said that negotiations continue with Russia regarding Ukrainian borders, potential security guarantees, and Kyiv’s cooperation with military alliances. The united states does not support transferring full control of Donbas territory to Russia. He noted that no agreement was expected at Trump and Putin’s meeting in Alaska over Ukraine as Kyiv was not part of those talks.
