Oliyanov: Alaska Meeting Focused on Long-Term Agreement, Not a Suspicious Ceasefire

Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations responded to the Alaska meeting between Trump and Putin, ⁢stating that the summit focused on‍ a long-term agreement⁤ rather than a fragile ceasefire.

According to the English section⁤ of ‌ webangah News Agency, quoting Mehr News Agency,⁢ Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s ‌permanent representative at international organizations in Vienna, wrote on his ‍official X ‌(formerly Twitter) ‍page that one⁣ of the main ⁣achievements of the Alaska meeting was that the two⁣ global powers agreed to⁢ focus their efforts ‌on a clear goal: the urgent ⁤negotiation of an effective,‌ long-term peace agreement-not a tenuous ceasefire that distracts from this objective.

he ‌noted that many ‌European Union leaders insist⁣ that any ⁤future peace ‌deal must provide⁤ reliable security guarantees for Ukraine.

Ulyanov added that Russia agrees with this view but ⁣also asserts its equal right to receive effective security guarantees for itself.

Regarding this ⁤issue, he stated: “What‌ does the West propose? apparently, they have not yet considered it.This is a mistake that⁤ needs correction. Russia ‌will assist in negotiations on ⁤this matter.”

Concluding his remarks, Ulyanov emphasized that ‌these security guarantees must be far more credible ⁢than the well-known 1990 promises-that NATO would not‌ advance⁢ even an inch eastward.
