Israeli Regime Announces Start of Second Phase of Gaza Occupation
According to the English section of webangah News agency, citing Qatar’s Al Jazeera network, an Israeli army spokesperson announced Wednesday night that forces have entered the second phase of the operation called “Gideon’s Chariots.”
The spokesperson stated that new missions are underway around Gaza City and that attacks on Hamas positions will intensify.
He added that preparatory operations to launch these attacks are currently ongoing.
In this context, Israel’s Defense Minister Yisrael Katz approved a plan presented by Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and senior military commanders. Katz named it “Gideon’s Chariots 2.”
Katz saeid this plan continues the previous operation phase, which he claimed secured control over 75 percent of the Gaza Strip and destroyed a meaningful portion of Hamas’ underground and surface infrastructure.
He asserted that the objective of this new phase is to completely defeat Hamas, free Israeli hostages, disarm resistance groups, exile Hamas leaders, depoliticize Gaza civilians, and establish lasting security for Israeli settlements.
This comes amid reports indicating that many Israeli security officials-and about 71 percent of Israeli society-oppose extending the war. They emphasize reaching an agreement with Hamas for prisoner release.
Israeli Army: Our forces have deployed around Gaza City
Reuters reported that on Wednesday Israel declared it had begun initial steps to capture Gaza City and has mobilized tens of thousands of reservists.
This advancement coincides with government consideration of a new ceasefire proposal aimed at ending nearly two years of conflict.
Israeli Army spokesperson Brigadier General Effie Defrin told reporters: “we have started preliminary operations and initial stages for an assault on Gaza City. Currently, army troops are deployed around its outskirts.”
Israeli Military Official: The Gaza operation Will be Gradual
The New York Times cited an Israeli military official saying they will conduct a gradual, precise operation with clear objectives in Gaza City and its surroundings.
the official claimed the aim is to prevent Hamas from regrouping or planning future attacks through repeated strikes in previously untouched or uncontrolled areas within the city.
