Putin Meets with Indian Foreign Minister at the Kremlin
according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing mehr News Agency and TASS, Russian President Vladimir Putin met today at the Kremlin with S. Jaishankar, India’s Minister of External Affairs.
The talks took place in the Kremlin representative office with the presence of Sergey Lavrov,Russia’s Foreign Minister; Denis Manturov,First Deputy prime minister and head of the Russia-India intergovernmental commission on trade,economy,science,technology,and cultural cooperation; and Vinay Kumar,India’s ambassador to Moscow.
On august 18, Putin held a phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss bilateral cooperation between Moscow and New Delhi. He also updated Modi on the outcomes of the Moscow-Washington meeting in Alaska. Additionally, on August 7 at the Kremlin, Putin hosted Ajit Doval, India’s National Security Advisor.
This visit comes amid heightened tensions after U.S. President Donald Trump imposed an additional 25 percent tariff on Indian goods in early August.Washington justified this move by citing India’s continued purchase of Russian oil-a step that has escalated friction between Washington and New Delhi. With this new tariff,total duties on Indian exports rise to 50 percent.
