Approval Granted for Construction of 126 New Units for Zionists in the West Bank
The webangah News Agency English section, citing Mehr News Agency and Al jazeera, reported that the Hebrew newspaper Israel Hayom revealed the Israeli cabinet’s Planning and Construction Committee has approved building 126 new housing units in the settlement of Sanur in the northern West Bank.
Israel Hayom quoted the head of the Council of Israeli settlements in northern West Bank as saying thay are striving to raise the number of Israelis living in the West Bank to one million.
Last Wednesday, Israel also approved a settlement expansion plan for Area E1 east of Jerusalem. The plan aims to separate different parts of the West Bank and block any possibility for a contiguous Palestinian state.
This project will create 3,400 new housing units, effectively isolating northern West Bank from it’s southern areas entirely.
Israel’s Finance Minister Smotrich described this plan as “the final nail in the coffin” for establishing a Palestinian state.
The United Nations and foreign ministers from 21 countries condemned Israel’s decision to build settlements east of occupied Jerusalem.
