Tensions Escalate Between France and Italy as Rome Summons Ambassador
Remarks by an Italian official against the French president have strained relations between the two countries.
The French Foreign Ministry summoned the Italian ambassador following comments made by Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister about Emmanuel Macron, according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Russia Today.
Sources familiar with the matter stated that the ambassador was informed these statements contradict the amiable atmosphere between France and Italy.
The Italian Deputy Prime Minister had earlier said that France’s president should not interfere with efforts aimed at achieving peace in Ukraine.
Responding to Macron’s remarks about deploying European troops to Ukraine amid its conflict with Russia, he said it woudl be better for Macron to don a military uniform and go to Ukraine himself.
