On Saturday and Sunday, Venezuela carried out an extensive census and enrollment campaign for its Bolivarian National Militia, which unites nearly 4.5 million members across the country.
This initiative comes at the request of President Nicolás Maduro amid contradictory statements from Washington that have not ruled out military operations on Venezuelan soil. The registration process for militia forces is taking place within military units, 15,700 local people’s defense headquarters nationwide, as well as in central city squares.
The government’s national Defense of Sovereignty and Peace plan involves expanding and activating popular forces, preparing citizens for civil defense and territorial protection, uniting people against psychological warfare and media campaigns, and promoting internal peace and national unity.
president Nicolás Maduro has ordered a general mobilization across Venezuela. He announced his directive to form a 4.5 million-strong militia force aimed at neutralizing U.S. threats against the country.
“As commander-in-chief,” Maduro said, ”I deemed it necessary to hold a major census on Saturday and Sunday with an open call to all militias nationwide-reserve forces included-and every citizen willing to stand up against imperialist threats.”
the president added that during this census operation, military command centers, units throughout the country’s territory, central urban plazas, and nearly 16 thousand people’s defense bases would be utilized.
Maduro also urged all militia members, reservists, or anyone ready to join defensive ranks in support of the ongoing national sovereignty and peace plan begun weeks ago to step forward.
Earlier statements from Maduro condemned Washington’s deployment of three warships near Venezuelan coasts as an illegitimate attempt to overthrow his government.
The Venezuelan Foreign Minister affirmed that Caracas is prepared to confront any aggression directed at its sovereignty.
Two days ago Reuters and AFP reported unnamed sources saying three U.S.warships dispatched by President Donald Trump would remain stationed off Venezuela through the end of this week; officially part of Washington’s anti-drug trafficking efforts in Latin America.
this naval deployment follows heightened pressure from Washington on Nicolás Maduro’s governance. Recently alleging cooperation between Maduro’s regime and cocaine trafficking networks targeting the United States,’ officials raised a bounty for his arrest to $50 million.
News outlets report that an amphibious task force comprising three Aegis-class guided missile destroyers was en route toward Venezuelan shores expected by next Sunday.
Two unnamed sources told Reuters these ships carry approximately 4,500 personnel including around 2,200 U.S.Marines aboard them.
Maduro stated Monday he would deploy millions of militiamen across Venezuela in response to perceived “threats” from the United States.
