American Arrested in Germany on Suspicion of Espionage for China
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr news Agency and the Associated Press, German prosecutors announced on Monday that an American man employed at a U.S. military facility in Germany was arrested on suspicion of providing sensitive details to China and charged with espionage.
The suspect,identified only as Martin D. under German privacy laws,was taken into custody in early November in Frankfurt,according to the report.
Federal prosecutors stated that an indictment sent earlier this month to the state court in koblenz charges him with expressing willingness to spy for a foreign intelligence service.
The statement added that between 2017 and early 2023, he worked for a civilian contractor of the U.S. Department of Defence and had been stationed at an undisclosed U.S. military facility in Germany as at least 2020.
He is accused of making multiple contacts with Chinese officials during summer 2024, offering to provide sensitive U.S. military information to Chinese intelligence.
German media have reported that authorities believe the suspect did not manage to transfer any data before his arrest.
