Iraq Consults with U.S. on Troop Reduction at Ain al-Asad Base
The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, met with members of a U.S. delegation, including the chargé d’affaires at the American embassy in Iraq, according to webangah News Agency,citing Russia Today.
During the meeting, al-Mashhadani consulted on plans to reduce American troops stationed at Ain al-Asad base.
The two sides also discussed limiting U.S. military activities to within Iraq’s Kurdistan Region amid evolving field developments and efforts to strengthen Iraq’s national sovereignty,considering the country’s current security stability.
It was emphasized that expanding Iraq’s relations with its neighbors is a fundamental pillar for enhancing regional stability and institutionalizing peaceful coexistence as part of shaping the future for both Iraq and regional nations.
Previously, U.S. forces had begun transferring their military equipment out of Ain al-Asad base in accordance with agreements signed between Baghdad and Washington aimed at ending combat operations by mid-September 2025.
