Woody Allen Controversy Erupts at Moscow Film Festival as Ukraine Attacks Cinema
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and TASS, Kirill Dmitriev, Russia’s special presidential envoy for economic cooperation with foreign countries and CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, stated that Ukraine’s attack and criticism over Woody Allen’s presence at the Moscow International Film Festival demonstrates Russia is not isolated.
dmitriev wrote on social media platform X: “The attempt to discredit Woody Allen as of his video appearance at the Moscow International Film Festival misses the point; russia is not isolated, and art’s duty is to build bridges, not burn them.”
Yesterday, Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Allen’s participation in the Moscow event. Additionally, a theater in Lviv canceled a musical titled “Bullets Over Broadway,” based on a play by Allen.The extremist Ukrainian website Mirotvorets also added him to its list of “open supporters of Russian aggression.”
