Kremlin: Russia-US Talks on Ukraine Must Be Held Behind Closed Doors

The Kremlin spokesperson emphasized the necessity of holding Russia-US talks on ⁣Ukraine ​behind closed doors and confirmed that⁢ preparations for​ Russian President ​Vladimir ⁤Putin’s “unprecedented”⁣ trip to ‍China are underway.

According ‌to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov described ⁣the upcoming trip of Russian President Vladimir Putin to​ China‌ as “unprecedented” ​and confirmed that preparations for‍ this visit are in progress.

The meeting is ​scheduled on the sidelines of the​ Shanghai​ Cooperation Organization ‍summit, which will ⁢bring together leaders from more than 20 countries worldwide.

The summit will⁤ take place from August 31 to September 1‌ in Tianjin, a port city in northern China.

Peskov also stated that discussions between Russia and‍ the US regarding Ukraine ⁢should continue ​in a non-public framework‌ to be effective.

He said: “Russia ‌believes that discussing details of Moscow-Washington negotiations about⁤ Ukraine without considering the broader context is unproductive. We believe these talks must⁣ proceed behind closed doors.Only then can results be achieved.”

Peskov added that ⁤communications between ⁢Russia and the US continue through established channels.

He highlighted former US President Donald ⁤Trump’s mediation efforts aimed at resolving the war in Ukraine as meaningful.

“we ‍deeply appreciate and hope these peace-oriented mediation efforts by the US president will persist,” Peskov said. “We believe these initiatives are very ⁤important and could genuinely lead toward constructive agreements.”
