Pope Leo XIV Joins Jerusalem Bishops’ Call for Peace in Gaza
According to the English section of webangah News agency, citing Mehr news Agency and Vatican News, Latin and Greek Orthodox bishops of Jerusalem issued a joint appeal for peace in gaza. They stated that there is no justification for “the purposeful and forced mass displacement of civilians” in Gaza.
The website reported that on Wednesday, Pope Leo XIV joined their call, commemorating a day of prayer and fasting for peace held on Friday, August 22.
In his remarks, Pope Leo XIV renewed his urgent appeal to all parties involved and the international community to end the conflict in the Holy Land, which has caused widespread horror, destruction, and loss of life.
He also called for safe access for humanitarian aid into Gaza and protection of civilians. The Pope demanded the release of all detainees, establishment of a lasting ceasefire, facilitation of secure humanitarian assistance delivery, full compliance with humanitarian law-especially commitments to protect civilians-and prohibition of collective punishment, unrestricted use of force, and forced displacement.
