Why Were U.S. Flags at Half-Staff at the White House?
The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, reports that donald trump’s absence from the public eye as last Tuesday has sparked widespread discussion on social media. Now, the half-mast American flag at the White House has intensified rumors surrounding the president’s health.
On August 27, American media reported a shooting at a church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Authorities later confirmed three deaths and 20 injuries.
Trump immediately responded to the shooting and ordered all flags at government buildings and military bases to be flown at half-mast until sunset on August 31. Robin Westman, the suspect in this incident, fired 116 rounds before committing suicide.
Why have half-mast flags become headline news?
Trump’s absence since last Tuesday without attending press conferences or public events-and no proclamation from the White House regarding his plans for public appearances over this past weekend-has amplified speculation about his physical condition.
Social media users quickly reacted to Trump’s disappearance from view; some described him as having “vanished” from public sight. Trump has not been seen in public since his cabinet meeting on Tuesday-a notably unusual progress for someone like him.
Certain posts on X (formerly Twitter) claimed that Trump was wholly missing throughout yesterday as well.According to Roll Call, a washington-based newspaper covering Capitol Hill and U.S. congress news, no public engagements involving Trump were listed for August 30 or 31 on official White House schedules-further fueling rumors.
Amid these swirling speculations and rumors, Vice President Mike Pence told USA Today: “What happened to Trump is terrible and I am ready to succeed him.”
Pence referred to bruising visible on Trump’s left hand which had caught attention online: “Yes, unfortunate incidents have occurred. But I am confident that the President of the United States is in good condition and intends to complete his remaining term while accomplishing great things for Americans. And if ‘the devil turns deaf,’ there could be nothing more frightening-but I can’t think of better planning over these past 200 days.”
The president is currently 79 years old; when sworn in during January’s inauguration ceremony he became America’s oldest sitting president in history. The focus on his health intensified after last month when the White House revealed tests related to foot swelling and bruising on his hand.
The White House explained that Trump’s hand bruise resulted from “minor tissue injury caused by repeated handshakes with officials along with continuous aspirin use.”
