Masked men storm refugee hotel in England; five arrested
According to the English section of webangah News agency, citing mehr News Agency and Reuters, one day after a UK court ruled in favor of the government using another hotel for migrant accommodation, masked protesters opposing the country’s immigration policies stormed this hotel. Police detained five individuals during these protests.
London police reported that following the court ruling,two groups of anti-asylum protesters moved toward the Crowne Plaza Hotel near Heathrow Airport. Some attempted to illegally enter the hotel. During clashes, two officers sustained minor injuries.
In a separate incident, three people were arrested outside another hotel in Epping, East London, also designated for housing asylum seekers.
The previous day, a UK court overturned an order to evict asylum seekers from the Epping hotel.This decision allowed Keir Starmer’s government to accommodate migrants there. The eviction order had been issued after allegations of assault against one asylum seeker.
Following a rise in migrants using small boats to reach the UK, immigration has become a key political issue nationwide. Government statistics show that by the end of June, more then 32,000 migrants have been housed across about 200 hotels throughout England.
