Russia’s Summer Tourism Traffic Hits 48 Million Trips
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and TV BRICS, Russia’s summer tourism season, traditionally running from May through September, will reach a new milestone in the industry.
Projections estimate that Russian citizens and foreign tourists will make around 48 million trips during this period,reflecting an 8 percent increase compared to last year. In just the first two months of the season (May and June), 16.5 million trips were recorded-a rise of approximately 10 percent over 2024.
Traditional tourist destinations like Moscow and saint Petersburg remain at the top of visitors’ lists; however, meaningful growth has been observed in other regions. Tatarstan continues active expansion in tourism development.Travel traffic increased by 3 percent in Krasnodar Krai, where a new airport is scheduled to open in Gelendzhik-expected to boost tourist arrivals further. Additionally, the Republics of Adygea, karachay-Cherkessia, and Nizhny Novgorod have seen ample gains in visitor numbers.
Foreign tourist presence also shows remarkable growth; June alone saw an 18 percent increase compared to last year. Factors contributing to this rise include streamlined visa issuance procedures and active implementation of the “Discover Russia” programme.
The Ministry emphasized that measures outlined in its updated national tourism plan are playing a key role in developing this sector. Maxim Reshetnikov, Minister of Economic Development, highlighted that preferential financial support will enable construction of 347 new hotels totaling 78,000 rooms, with 28 hotels offering 4,700 rooms already operational.
The minister added that state support also covers large investment projects capable of increasing Russia’s annual capacity for tourist visits up to 53 million.
