The two leaders discussed the need to expand trade and investment following recent U.S. tariff measures.

This meeting occurred just days after Washington imposed 50% tariffs on Indian goods in response to New Delhi’s purchase of Russian oil-a move analysts say is pushing Modi and Xi closer toward alliance amid Western pressures.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated that during the meeting Modi underscored both countries’ pursuit of strategic autonomy and insisted their relationship should not be viewed through a third-party lens.
The ministry added that modi highlighted reducing India’s trade deficit with china and expanding cooperation on regional and global issues such as terrorism and fair trade practices.Officials also exchanged views on broadening collaboration in bilateral, regional, and global matters within multilateral frameworks.
