Trump Mandates Voter ID for Election Participation
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on his social media platform Truth Social that he has signed an executive order to require voters to present identification when voting.
Trump wrote on Truth Social: “A voter ID card must be part of the ballot. No exceptions! For this purpose, I will issue an executive order!!!”
He added that mail-in voting would only be allowed for severely ill individuals and military personnel serving overseas.
this announcement comes as Trump reiterates his claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election, in which he lost to Democratic nominee Joe Biden, and seeks reforms in the American electoral system.
Trump and his Republican allies have also alleged extensive illegal participation by non-citizens in elections, a claim officials say is rare and unfounded.
The president has long called for ending electronic voting machines in favor of paper ballots counted by hand-a process election officials warn is slower, more costly, and less accurate than machine counting.
In March, Trump signed a broad executive order requiring voters to prove their U.S. citizenship to participate in federal elections and mandating all votes be cast on Election Day.
However, a U.S. judge blocked parts of this order-including the citizenship verification-stating in April that organizing federal elections is constitutionally entrusted not solely to the president but jointly with states and Congress.
