Death Toll in Deadly Afghanistan Earthquake Surpasses 600

FRANCE 24 reports ‍that ‍the⁣ death toll from the deadly earthquake in ‌Afghanistan has reached at least 600.

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and FRANCE 24,​ the⁣ recent earthquake in Afghanistan has⁣ so far claimed at least 622 lives.

The⁣ quake struck eastern Afghanistan near the Pakistan border, causing widespread destruction across‍ many ⁤villages.

FRANCE 24, quoting Afghan officials, reports that more than 1,500 ⁣people have been injured.

The earthquake ‌measured a magnitude of 6 on the‌ Richter scale and occurred shortly after midnight ⁤on Sunday. The US ‌Geological Survey located its epicenter about ⁤35 kilometers ⁢north of Basawal ​village in ⁢Mahmand Dara District of Nangarhar Province, at a depth of⁣ 10 kilometers.

Local reports indicate heavy damage and notable casualties in Darra-i-Noor District of Nangarhar⁤ Province.

The quake struck at approximately⁣ 11:47 pm local time. About twenty minutes later, a aftershock measuring magnitude 4.5‍ hit the same area.
