Putin: 2014 Kyiv Coup Is a Main Cause of the Ukraine War
According to the English service of webangah News Agency, citing TASS, Russian President Vladimir Putin called Western attempts to bring Kyiv into NATO one of the main causes of the Ukraine conflict during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit currently taking place in China.
Putin emphasized that the Ukraine crisis largely stems from the 2014 coup in Kyiv, which he said was incited by Western powers.
He stated, “The second cause of this crisis is the persistent efforts by the West to integrate Ukraine into NATO. As we have repeatedly stressed, such a advancement poses a direct threat to Russia’s security.”
The Russian president further noted that following the 2014 coup, “the political forces opposing Ukraine’s accession to NATO were removed.”
This year’s Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting began on August 31 in Tianjin, northern China, and will continue through September 1.
