Moscow: Iran’s Approach to Cooperation with the Agency Remains Highly Responsible
according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, stressed Iran’s ongoing responsible stance regarding cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in a message posted on the social network X.
Responding to remarks by Mohammad Eslami, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, about the presence of two IAEA inspectors overseeing the fuel replacement process at Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, Ulyanov wrote: “Iran continues to demonstrate a very responsible approach toward cooperation with the IAEA. The provocative actions by the European troika (E3) through their so-called ‘snapback’ mechanism have not changed this.”
Eslami, who is currently accompanying President Ebrahim Raisi in China for participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, told Iranian state media that cooperation with the agency follows Parliament-approved legal protocols. He added that IAEA monitoring of fuel replacement at Bushehr was conducted under permission from Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretariat. “Two inspectors came, supervised this process, and left,” he said.
Last Thursday,Britain,France, and Germany-known as the European troika-sent a letter to the United Nations Security Council announcing their intention to activate the snapback mechanism against Iran. This move aims to reinstate UN sanctions on tehran.
According to Reuters’ reported sighting of this letter, these three countries stated they had “decided to trigger snapback against Iran before losing their ability around mid-October” to restore sanctions on tehran.
Reuters also cited political sources reporting that Russia and china are preparing a draft resolution for submission to the Security Council seeking an additional six-month extension of the nuclear agreement with iran. The draft calls for all parties involved promptly resuming nuclear negotiations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran condemned as illegal last week’s proclamation by Europe’s three countries regarding Resolution 2231 during its response statement issued at that time.
