Pakistan Prime Minister Meets Iranian President on the Sidelines of Shanghai Summit
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan’s Prime minister, held talks with Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on the sidelines of the SCO Heads of State Council meeting in Tianjin, China.
Also present at the meeting were Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister; Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff; and several federal ministers.
The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s deep commitment to it’s historic and fraternal ties with neighboring Iran. He described these strong relations as rooted in shared history, cultural heritage, and religious beliefs. Both sides reviewed ongoing cooperation across various sectors and expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of Iran-Pakistan relations.
Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan’s continuous support and emphasized Iran’s resolve to expand bilateral cooperation in various fields of mutual interest.
The Pakistani Prime Minister referenced President Pezeshkian’s visit to Pakistan in August 2025 as highly beneficial and effective for strengthening ties between both countries. He added that the people of Pakistan welcomed their Iranian guest warmly during this recent visit.
Shehbaz Sharif also stressed enhancing political and economic relations between these friendly nations. He reaffirmed pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with both Iranian people and government. The prime minister underscored Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace by stating that dialog and diplomacy remain essential tools for reducing tensions and achieving stability.
The Iranian president expressed his condolences over lives lost and extensive damages caused by recent floods affecting various parts of Pakistan. He affirmed that Iran stands alongside Pakistan through these difficult times.
