Shanghai Cooperation Organization Expands to 27 Member States
According to the English section of webangah News agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, China’s Foreign Minister announced that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) now includes 27 member states.
Speaking at a press conference following the SCO summit held in Tianjin province, Wang Yi described the meeting as successful with positive outcomes.
He emphasized that the “Global Governance Initiative” helps manage global instability and economic progress challenges. Multilateralism,he said,is essential for achieving effective global governance.
The Chinese foreign minister added that the United Nations should play a role in reforming global governance. “We seek cooperation instead of confrontation and solidarity instead of division,” he said.
The SCO Secretary-General also stated that defending a multipolar world is vital. He noted that China’s proposed Global Governance Initiative is grounded in the rule of law, garnering strong support from member countries.
The SCO summit took place from August 31 to September 1 with participation from heads of state of member nations.
In a joint statement, member states condemned aggressive attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran, actions leading to humanitarian disasters in Gaza, as well as all forms of terrorism.
