Italian Doctors Begin Hunger Strike to Support Gaza
According to webangah News agency, citing Mehr News Agency and the Italian news outlet Nurse24, on August 28, medical professionals throughout Italy joined a day of fasting to protest against the severe humanitarian disaster unfolding in Gaza.
The demonstration was organized by the #digiunogaza network and the “Teva? No thanks” campaign. It involved more than 15,000 healthcare specialists and over 500 hospitals and treatment centers nationwide.
A silent yet collective protest: a hunger strike for Gaza
This initiative began on July 29 in Tuscany as an act of abstaining from at least one meal combined with a hunger strike. It quickly spread across the country.
August 28 saw spontaneous mobilizations throughout Italy-from major hospitals such as Policlinico Umberto I in Rome, San Matteo in Pavia, and Molinette in Turin to peripheral areas like Capraia Island.
In Emilia-Romagna alone, about 5,000 healthcare officials from over 100 municipalities registered their participation. rather than entering cafeterias without participating quietly, individuals or groups posed with banners reading “Fasting Against Genocide in gaza”.
