Europe Moves to Impose Tariffs on Israeli Goods
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency adn Qatar’s Al Jazeera network, Israel’s Channel 14 announced that the European Union has begun talks to approve customs tariffs on Israeli products manufactured in the West Bank.
if approved, this decision could seriously restrict exports of these goods to European markets.
The EU has previously stated in official documents that products made in settlements located in the occupied territories are not covered by free trade agreements with Israel and must be labeled separately.
In recent months, several European countries, including Ireland and Spain, have adopted stricter stances regarding Israeli settlement construction.
Israeli officials consider these measures “discriminatory” and warn of their political and economic consequences.
Simultaneously occurring, the European Union maintains that settlement activities violate international law and thus do not qualify for trade benefits under agreements with Israel.
