Gulf Cooperation Council’s Baseless Claims on Iran’s Three Islands
According to the English section of webangah news Agency, citing Arabic media and Mehr News Agency, the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC),during a joint meeting with Japan’s Foreign Minister in Kuwait, repeated its baseless claim that the three Iranian islands-Greater Tunb,Lesser tunb, and Abu Musa-belong to the United Arab Emirates, despite these islands being an integral part of Iran’s territory.
In another part of its statement, the GCC alleged that the Arash gas field lies within Kuwaiti and Saudi waters and urged Iran to engage in dialog to resolve these issues.
These claims come despite Iran’s repeated affirmations of its historical and legal sovereignty over these islands and its rights regarding the Arash gas field.
The GCC also called for expanded negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program, asserting that such talks must address all security concerns affecting member states of the council.
