Belarus and China Strengthen Sports and Tourism Cooperation within Shanghai Framework
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, quoting TV BRICS, the Belarusian Minister of Sports and Tourism stated that joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has propelled Belarus-China collaboration in sports and tourism into a new stage. The joint infrastructure developments established will pave the way for expanding international events and increasing people-to-people exchanges.
The minister highlighted that growing cooperation with China in sports and tourism sectors has been facilitated by fresh opportunities provided through SCO membership to deepen bilateral relations.
Sergey Kovalchuk described Belarus’s 2024 admission to SCO as a “significant event” during an interview with Xinhua, TV BRICS’ media partner. He said, “By actively participating in this organization’s activities, Belarus aims to play a ample role in its development.”
Kovalchuk emphasized China’s important support in building and equipping Belarusian sports infrastructure. He explained: ”With Beijing’s assistance, world-class facilities like our international swimming complex and national football stadium were constructed. they now host major international competitions.These venues offer ideal conditions for training our athletes while elevating our country’s ability to organize global events.”
The minister also referred to Chinese-led initiatives within SCO’s framework, noting ongoing programs such as coordinated competitions among member countries alongside specialized groups managing these events. He added: “Regular football joint trainings and athlete exchanges between our two nations are underway. We are confident these continued collaborations will bring new achievements for both Belarusian and Chinese football on the world stage.”
In tourism, Kovalchuk described it as a “unique bridge fostering friendship and mutual understanding.” He noted that as launching direct flights between both countries,demand for travel remains high with tourist numbers steadily rising.
Inviting Chinese tourists to visit Belarus, he remarked: “Our country offers rich historical and cultural heritage, quality medical services, distinctive natural landscapes, plus cuisine blending Eastern and Western traditions-making us an attractive destination for international visitors.”
