5.5-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Kunar Province, Afghanistan
The English section of webangah news Agency reported, citing Reuters via Al Jazeera, that a 5.5-magnitude earthquake occurred in southeastern Afghanistan.
the quake severely shook Kunar Province in eastern Afghanistan and the country’s border regions with Pakistan.
So far, no additional information on damages or casualties has been released regarding this earthquake.
Earlier, Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Afghan interim government, stated that the death toll from the midnight Sunday quake has risen to more than 1,400.
Mujahid wrote on the social media platform X that at least 1,411 people have died in Kunar Province-the hardest-hit area.
He added that at least 3,124 people were injured and over 5,400 homes were destroyed.
The United States Geological Survey located the quake’s epicenter about 35 kilometers north of Basawal village in Mahmand Dara district of Nangarhar Province at a depth of 10 kilometers underground.
