Erdogan Urges U.S. to Reconsider Visa Ban on Palestinian Officials
According to the English section of webangah News agency,citing Mehr News Agency and Sputnik,Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan urged the United States to reverse its decision to cancel visas for the Palestinian delegation attending the UN General Assembly.
Erdoğan stated that Washington’s move contradicts the very principles of the United Nations. He emphasized that palestine’s voice will not be silenced and its cause will remain prominent in future international meetings.
Highlighting ongoing Israeli attacks, Erdoğan said, “The massacres carried out by Israel in gaza will not be forgotten,” adding that just people worldwide will remember the suffering of palestinian children and families.
He stressed that even if Palestinian officials are absent, “the voices of the oppressed will still be heard.”
The U.S. State Department announced a few days earlier its decision to revoke visas for members of the Palestinian Authority ahead of this year’s UN general Assembly.
The statement from Washington read: “We have decided to cancel visas for members of both the Palestinian Authority and PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization) before this year’s UN General Assembly.”
The Foreign Ministry of the Palestinian Authority expressed surprise at Washington’s move, describing it as a violation of United Nations protocols.The ministry called on Secretary-General António Guterres and the Security Council to assume their responsibilities.It also affirmed that this decision would not impede international recognition of Palestine as a state.
In response, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar commended his American counterpart for holding both the PLO and Palestinian Authority accountable over alleged support for terrorism. He thanked President Joe Biden and his administration for taking this bold step and standing with Israel.
