According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters, Alexey Likhachov, CEO of russia’s state-owned nuclear corporation Rosatom, stated that Moscow is committed to helping Beijing overtake the United States as the leading global producer of nuclear power.
When asked if Russia would help China achieve this goal, Likhachov confirmed: “Certainly. we will help and are already doing so.”
He explained that Russia has previously contributed to building four nuclear reactors in China and is currently constructing four more. To realize its enterprising plans, Beijing requires substantial amounts of uranium and nuclear fuel.
Likhachov added, “As a result, China will need to develop a new generation of closed fuel cycle reactors based on Russian technology.”
The United States operates the world’s largest fleet of nuclear reactors with roughly 97 gigawatts (GW) of installed capacity. Meanwhile, according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, China aims to build dozens more reactors and had 53.2 GW of active reactor capacity as of April last year.
