UNIFIL Condemns Israeli Attack on Its Forces in Southern Lebanon
the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported that Israeli drones launched missiles near its positions along the Blue Line in southern Lebanon.
The incident, which occurred yesterday morning, marks one of the most serious attacks on UNIFIL personnel and property since the ceasefire agreement between hezbollah and Israel took effect last November.
According to UNIFIL’s statement, the Israeli drones fired missiles while its forces were removing obstacles in the Blue Line area.
UNIFIL emphasized that the Israeli military must guarantee the safety and security of its troops.
This attack comes days after a United Nations Security Council resolution extended the mandate of international forces operating in Lebanon for an additional one year and four months. Following this period, a gradual and orderly withdrawal of these forces is planned over one year.
Resolution 2790 was unanimously approved despite opposition from Israel and the United States. It reaffirmed UNIFIL’s role in supporting the Lebanese army and implementing Resolution 1701, which established a ceasefire following the July 2006 war between Hezbollah and Israel.
