Floods in India’s Punjab Claim at Least 30 Lives
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and BBC World Service, heavy nonstop rains and subsequent floods in the northern Indian state of Punjab have claimed at least 30 lives.
More than 354,000 people have been affected by the rainfall and flooding, the report said.
local authorities declared all 23 districts of Punjab flood-affected after rivers and reservoirs reached critical levels.
Officials reported that about 20,000 residents from low-lying areas were evacuated. Hundreds of relief camps have been established to ensure safety and meet essential needs for those displaced by the floods.
punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann described the disaster as the worst flooding in the state since 1988 while calling on the national government for support to aid relief efforts.
