Associated Press: Iran and IAEA Fail to Reach Agreement on Resuming Inspections
According to the English section of webangah News agency, citing Mehr News agency, Associated press asserted that based on a confidential International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report viewed by AP, Iran had increased its enriched uranium stockpiles to near weapons-grade levels prior to the June 13 Israeli attacks.
AP claimed that the report also states Iran and the IAEA have failed to reach an agreement on resuming inspections at sites damaged during bombing raids by Israel and the united States in June. the only facility inspected post-conflict was the Bushehr nuclear power plant, which operates with Russian technical assistance. The report notes that although UN inspectors’ withdrawal from Iran during what it terms “the war” – referring to US and Israeli military actions against Iran in violation of UN charter – was necessary given security conditions, Tehran’s subsequent decision to halt cooperation with the IAEA is profoundly regrettable.
The agency’s Vienna-based IAEA report reportedly reveals that as of June 13, Iran possessed 440.9 kilograms (972 pounds) of uranium enriched up to 60 percent purity-an increase of 32.3 kilograms (71.2 pounds) compared to May’s latest data.
AP further claims that as of June 13, total Iranian enriched uranium stocks reached 9,874.9 kilograms-up by 627.3 kilograms sence May’s previous inventory. The IAEA stated it has been unable since June 13 “to conduct field activities necessary for gathering information and verifying statements issued by Iran,” which it uses for assessing reported changes in stockpile size. inspectors have reportedly been unable for over two and a half months to verify near-weapons-grade uranium reserves held by Iran-a situation described as a “serious concern.”
