U.S. Federal Judge Blocks Trump’s Decision on Harvard
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Al-Mayadeen,U.S. Federal Judge Allison Burroughs in Boston ruled that President Donald Trump’s decision to withhold $2.2 billion in funding from Harvard University was illegal. This marks a judicial victory for the university amid its conflict with the White House over allegations related to support for Palestine following the Gaza conflict.
In her ruling, Judge Burroughs stated that the Trump administration unlawfully revoked $2.2 billion in financial aid to Harvard and affirmed that the government does not have the authority to reduce research funding for this prestigious Ivy League institution.
The Trump administration had accused Harvard of supporting Palestine under false pretenses of antisemitism and alleged influence by far-left groups, using federal funds as leverage to pressure changes within American universities.
Three American Universities Yield Under Trump’s Pressure
Meanwhile, three other Ivy League universities succumbed to pressure from the U.S. government. Last July, Columbia University agreed to pay back $220 million in federal research funding.
The Trump administration intensified its targeting of Harvard due to pro-Palestine protests on campus following Israel’s offensive against Gaza nearly two years ago.
