Lebanese Minister Threatens Resignation Over Resistance Disarmament Proposal Review
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Al Mayadeen via Mehr News agency, Fadi Makki, an independent Shiite minister in Lebanon’s cabinet, has prepared a handwritten resignation letter. He has approached Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and informed him that he will submit his resignation if necessary.
The threat comes as the cabinet began a session at the presidential palace earlier today to discuss an American-backed plan aimed at disarming resistance groups, known as the ”monopoly of arms within the Lebanese government” initiative.
Shiite ministers from both Amal Movement and Hezbollah have declared they will not participate in any debate on this plan. They argue that it is an instrument to push through a governmental decision that contradicts Lebanon’s national Pact.
