Lebanese President Meets CENTCOM Commander
Lebaonese President Joseph Aoun met with a high-ranking U.S. military delegation led by the commander of CENTCOM in Beirut, according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al-Nashra.
During the meeting at Baabda Presidential Palace, Aoun told Admiral Brad Cooper and his delegation: “We emphasize the importance of continued American support for the lebanese armed Forces so they can carry out their mission.”
He also stressed that Washington must pressure Israel to withdraw from Lebanese soil, enabling Lebanon’s army to complete its deployment along the international border.
Aoun requested that Cooper activate the work of the Mechanism for Supervising the Disengagement (MECHANISM) to ensure implementation of last November’s agreements regarding cessation of Israeli attacks on Lebanon, Israeli withdrawal from occupied hills and territories, prisoner returns, as well as full enforcement of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
The president highlighted in a session attended by General Michael Lohne, head of the Mechanism Committee: “Continued Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon hinder our army’s ability to complete its border deployment. The Lebanese Armed Forces have already secured over 85 percent of southern areas south of the litani River.”
CENTCOM Commander Brad Cooper praised “the distinguished role” played by Lebanon’s army and affirmed ongoing U.S.assistance.
Cooper subsequently traveled to occupied territories where he met with Eyal Zamir, Chief of Staff of Israel’s military forces, along with other senior commanders.
The United States CENTCOM issued a statement on social media platform X announcing this visit while underscoring Washington’s commitment to Tel Aviv’s security.
